A specification sheet can tell a manufacturer the GSM and construction of an interlining, but it cannot show exactly how that material will behave with a particular wool fabric. Two fabrics with similar weights can respond very differently during fusing because of differences in texture, density and composition. This makes sample testing an important part of overcoat production.
Manufacturers using woven fusible interlining should test the actual combination of outer fabric and interlining rather than relying solely on previous production experience. The sample should be fused using the intended press settings and allowed to cool fully before evaluation. Look for a smooth bond, consistent surface, good shape retention and natural drape. Any bubbling, lifting or excessive stiffness is a sign that either the material or the process needs adjustment.
The same principle applies when selecting woven interlining for repeat production. Even if a factory has successfully used a particular grade before, a new wool supplier or fabric batch can change the result. Testing again takes very little time compared with correcting hundreds of finished panels.
This is especially relevant for winter production in Delhi NCR. Overcoats often involve substantial quantities and tight seasonal deadlines, leaving little opportunity for major corrections once manufacturing is underway. A small pre-production test helps manufacturers establish the appropriate weight and fusing conditions before committing an entire batch.
